Each occupational area at the Central Montco Technical High School has an employee-based Occupational Advisory Committee which advises and makes recommendations to the teachers in school matters as curriculum, equipment and job placement. Through their input, curriculum is continually revised to relate to current employer needs. Over 125 employers participate in these committees.
Work-Based Studies
Whether you're job hunting fresh out of school or changing careers, your resume will look brighter when you have something to list under 'experience.' But there's a catch. how do you get the experience if you're only attending classes? At CMTHS, internship opportunities bridge the gap between classroom and real life. We believe it's just as important to learn from life as from lectures. When it comes to meeting the challenges of a rapidly changing world, you need more then just theory. You need to knowledge that comes with practice.
All of our academic programs recommend, some even require,
hands-on experience.
Work-based studies is a unique plan of education designed to integrate theoretical classroom and technical studies with planned and supervised practical experience in career-related employment assignments. There are three areas of Work-Based studies that students can become involved with Cooperative Education, Internships and Clinical Experience.
The Cooperative Education experience is a culminating activity in the
Work-Based Studies program .
When technical studies reach a certain competency level in their trade area they can apply and acquire new skills at the work site. The student must be a 12th grade student in their 2nd year at CMTHS. A training plan is developed between the employer, the student and the technical instructor. Internships are supervised, unpaid work experiences with a professional who possesses the skills and knowledge of the trade. The mentor helps the student with career decision-making b inviting the student to learn about the career. The length of time on an actual mentoring activity is determined on an individual basis. All students are encouraged to participate in this very important aspect of their total career development.
